This is where it all began. Inspired by Ire Aderinokun year in review, i tried doing my own for 2016 & 2017, there was nothing to review. At the end of 2017, i made it a goal to make my 2018 worth a review and so glad i did. I will be writing about books, podcasts, conferences & summit attended, writings, certifications & awards, life in general.

NOTE: For those unfamiliar with medium, there is a link you can click on every underlined text.

Books & Podcast

This year, i was privileged to read 8 books, completed 5 books, rolling over the uncompleted ones into 2019. Podcast was my thing this year, a lazy way to learn stuffs (think of it as someone speaking directly into your head, all you just have to do is listen)

Books

  1. Power, Politics and Death — Olusegun Adeniyi (politics)
  2. Fighting Corruption is Dangerous — Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (politics)
  3. How They Started Global Brands — David Lester (startups)
  4. Zero to One — Peter Thiel (startups)
  5. Lean Startup — Eric Ries (startups) uncompleted
  6. Fixing Healthcare in Nigeria — Dr Ola Brown (healthcare)
  7. Small Money , Big Business — Akin Alabi (business) uncompleted
  8. Go for Gold — John C Maxwell (leadership) uncompleted
Book stash, the remaining were PDFs

Podcast

  1. Building the Future with Dotun Olowoporoku
  2. Y Combinator podcast with Craig Cannon

Conference & Summit

Just 3 in the bag and they were eye opening.

  1. Techcrunch Battlefield Africa
  2. Ogun Tech Summit 2018
  3. Techpoint Build 2018

Writing

I courageously wrote 2 articles including the one you are currently reading

  1. Introducing: Cralocs — AirBnB for Film Locations

Work & Projects

This year I had the privilege of working on a few projects. At different times, which surprisingly got more attention than i expected. Learnt a lot of stuff by building these projects from product development to email & content marketing, customer acquisition etc. This was the best thing about my 2018

Spoilers Alert: they are both failed projects, one was suspended, the other closed down.

BoxPlay: a VOD platform for Africans to watch cinema released movies. Spent the first 6 months working on this, died a natural death at content licensing stage with studios.

Cralocs: inspired by this blog-post, my co-founder Oluwatobi and I created an online marketplace for filmmakers to find and book film locations. We built it really fast(under 2 weeks), using ready made tools. Cralocs got featured on ProductHunt and accepted into Y Combinator Startup School. We couldn’t scale it so its currently suspended.

Certification &Awards

Certification

  1. Andela Learning Community (Android Beginner) — Udacity, Andela & Google

2. Google Fundamentals of Digital Marketing — Google

Award

My college HandBall team of which i am a member, finished on the podium with a Silver Medal at FUNAAB Inter-collegiate Cup. My quest for more than one medal got me 2 weeks of sickness

Life

  • My Family: Dad, Mum and Siblings were all in good health in this year.
  • Turned 18! this year, LEGAL status
  • Learnt a lot of stuffs cutting across technology, business, startups, politics.
  • I became a nocturnal animal, sleeping at odd hours

What about 2019?

  1. Learn to code (https://www.udemy.com/the-complete-web-developer-zero-to-mastery/learn/v4/overview)
  2. Build & launch new exciting stuffs (already on it) & make money #NoMoreFailedProjects
  3. Read a min of 15 books and start writing about stuffs.
  4. Exercise, travel, rest and enjoy more.

  6. And many more, as the spirit leads

Thanks to God for a such a wonderful and blissful year. Grateful to everyone that was part of my year, can’t start typing your guys names. May God bless you all and grant you a glorious 2019

Happy New Year !!!!!!!!!!!!
